Something New, Something Old

Something New!

Greetings, and welcome to my photo blog! It feels a little funny (but mostly amazing!) to be committing to a daily routine like this after taking quite a long break from journaling... but let me explain!

I recently purchased my first camera, a Canon Digital ELPH, from my sister Krista, who is one of my main sources of inspiration for beginning a photo blog in the first place. Having very little experience with photography and keeping in mind the fact that I need to be able to take great photos in order to sell my handcrafted jewelry (promotional blog forthcoming!), I've decided to embark upon a project 365 to get my creative juices flowing and my skills honed so that I can someday graduate to a DSLR, like the fancy ones my sisters have.

Yes, sisters. My other sister, Laura, is a freshman at BGSU and is studying VCT. She is also incredibly photo-savvy! She, being the first person I know of to participate in Project 365 (unless Krista has too, which I'm totally ignorant to!), is takes the cake for planting the seed that inspired what you will see in the year to come.

Lastly my long-lost friend Cara's beautiful photos of day-to-day life in Massachusetts provided the spark of inspiration I needed to join my sisters, who up til now have been discussing techniques I don't even know the lingo for in long and delightful meetings without me, in photo madness. I'm so excited to let this project be a learning process and an opportunity to record and share what it's like to be me!

To Krista, Laura, and Cara, this one's for you!

And now for my photo: the theme for today is "Something Old."

This is my stuffed dog, aptly named Doggie, given to me by my grandma Schweitzer before I was born. Grandma passed away in '86, so Doggie and all of his sentimental value remained after all of my other stuffed animals and dolls departed, and although I propped him on the pillow for old time's sake, he currently lives out his life as he did until I was about 3 or 4: serenely observing the scenery from the shelf he's tucked away on.  Even though Doggie isn't quite as old as a stalactite or a crumbly canyon wall, he definitely predates me, and that's old enough!
